ParticipantMachine is not 2 years old yet. When switched on, it skips the wash cycle and goes straight to rinse. All cycles apart from wash working fine. Light for wash cycle won’t come on no matter what button/combination of buttons I press. No error code as far as I can tell. Have done an extensive Google search and can’t find the reason why! Any ideas guys?

At this time on a Friday night after a couple of glasses of wine that is a loaded question which could/should be answered by giving you the blunt but truthful answer, Indesit made machines are a load of ****.
If there are no lights flashing then it is really just guesswork from this distance, could be sticking touch buttons, faulty control module or faulty main module. The electronics in Indesit machines are about the flakiest on the market for sure. 🙁
Does the main rotary control knob appear to be sound, they are very prone to breaking and it is always possible it is stuck on the rinse setting with the knob spinning loose.

By jove iadom, I think you’ve got it!! The main rotary control knob IS spinning loose and the machine must be stuck on the rinse setting. You’re a bl**dy genius! I’m SO grateful to you for taking the time to reply late on a Fri night. By the way, your post made me smile. 🙂
Taking into account your comment about ‘Indesit made machines are a load of ****’ – you’re not wrong there! – what would you say I should do? Get a repair or get rid? Any idea how much it might cost to replace a main knob! 😀 I imagine the part itself is relatively cheap, so probably not worth claiming on Hotpoint’s ‘5 Year Parts Guarantee’ because they’ll charge me the earth to have one of their engineers come out and fit it.
Thanks so much…

Some of these knobs are just a simple pull off/ push on fit. Some need the front console removing and taking apart to get at the console pcb and knob.
If you can give me the full model number, serial number, and any other numbers you can find on the sticker inside the door I can find you the part number, well worth fixing.

Just checked and there are two different knobs depending on colour, the white one is a C00259848 and the Graphite ( dark grey ) is C00276236. Just hope it’s white, the list price of the white one is around £15 but the graphite one is £27. 😯
Hard to tell from the parts diagram but it does look like the simple pull off/push on fit. Try and pull the broken knob off with some pliers, if it is the easy one you will not need too much force to get it off. If you manage to do that you can then turn the control shaft with the pliers to other settings which will enable you to get it to wash.

Well, iadom, I took a pair of pliers to the broken knob as you suggested and it came right off. Took a look at the back of it and.. you were absolutely right – the plastic’s cracked! New knob on order.
Can’t thank you enough. You have saved me a whole lotta time, stress and £££. Plus, now, I can wash again!! Hoorah!
Thank God for this forum and the fabulous folk who moderate it. Keep up the great work guys – us mere mortals need you! 🙂

Just one other thing to add.. before I knew what the problem was and thought I might be facing a huge repair bill, I contacted Coop Electrical, who sold me the machine in Dec 13. To my shock and amazement, they actually cared and were incredibly helpful. So, anyone thinking about making a large electrical purchase should definitely consider purchasing from Coop. Good after sales service – especially nearly 2 years down the line – is pretty much unheard of in this day and age. Big up to The Coop!

As a temp measure you could use a small cable tie to pull crack together. Has got me out of trouble more than once
