ParticipantHi, I’m hoping you can help me.
I have a Hotpoint Aquarius WDL540 (18 months old) which keeps tripping the fuse on the wall socket. I’ve checked the socket wiring, and it looks charred (not surprising given the shorts), but I have also tried the washer from a different socket, and although it doesn’t short the fuse, the plug heats up very quickly during a wash cycle, at which point I shut it down.
Can anyone help?
I tried to find the pump filter to check that it isn’t blocked, but no luck. Where is this? I checked under the front kick cover, but when I remove the guard, there is nothing there.
I’m not electrically minded 😳 , so any help you can offer would be gratefully appreciated.
I hope you can help. Thanks
Stuart

firstly, cut the plug back 3 inches and fit a good quality, 13amp plug
get yer socket checked as well, it may not be the machine thats at fault, it could be a faulty wall socket

Thanks. I’ll try replacing the plug, and see how that goes. I’ve now tried the washer on 3 seperate wall sockets, with the same outcome, so I don’t think its the socket.
Thanks, and I’ll let you know how I get on.
Appreciated.

Hi Stuart,
I think you’ll find that the problem is with the element in the Heater box and if you’re not electrical minded I’d recommend giving a trusted engineer a call. Try unplugging the machine and removing the lid. You’ll see the heater box on top with the terminals coming out. If they are close together just try wiggling them back and forward together if they do, then the weld has failed on the bracket resulting in the element going to earth. Replace element should do the trick, but you’ll need special screwdriver bits to complete.June 2, 2011 at 8:28 pm #352750helo_75

thats good, im suggesting the plug 1st, mainly because its gettin hot while its drawing current… thats usually a bad connection in the plug itself…a faulty element would, as a rule just blow the fuse/trip the switch the second the machine was plugged in, although its not impossible its faulty
