ParticipantWe’ve had a Hotpoint Aquarius WF540 for a couple of years. Due to a recent combination of mud and dog hairs it is now not completing the wash cycle. Lights 2 and 4 (reduced creases and mini load) as well as the on/off light start flashing and the only way to switch it off is at the plug.
After draining it, I have managed to clean the filter (and found one pound six pence!) and put it back together. However, it is still doing the same as before.
Any tips on what to do next?August 9, 2008 at 11:42 pm #259520Penguin45

The computer is reading the pressure switch in the full position when it shouldn’t be.
1/ Switch may be jammed in the full position – replacement required.
2/ More likely that the pressure chamber on the side of the sump hose is clogged, especially in view of your original post.
3/ Bonkers computer board is quite possible with these machines – box by Hotpoint, electronics by Indesit.Power off before investigating.

Success!!!
Thanks for the reply. I think i cleaned the sump hose as i believe the filter is attached inside!!! But I was still having problems.
I checked the u-bend connection under the sink to the drain-hose and found it was clogged up with gunk and clay-like mud. I cleaned this out and put the machine through a wash-cycle. It went all the way through without stopping.
It is now up and running and I have not had to replace anything…I’m even one pound six pence up!!!
At least I now know that it is not always the machine at fault and to be careful of what is actually put in to be washed.
Thanks!!!

Hi, from what you say about the clay like gunk in your waste hose, you are not doing enough service washes. ( Max temp selected and run a wash with no clothes in the machine, the hot water flushes out the system)

Learnt a lot from this website over the last few days…including doing regular service washes!!! This would have meant I did not spend the weekend trying to sort out the washing machine. Happy days!!!
