Just turned on my machine and it’s come straight up with error F-12. I notice there’s an explanation for this for Indesit on other posts but nothing for Hotpoint.

Other symptoms are seems to have opened the cold water valve and be filling with water. Pressing the off button doesn’t even seem to stop it taking on water, only turning off the tap or killing the mains stops it.

Any ideas on what this might be, how to fix it or what it is likely to cost? The machine is 18 months old. s/n 35115030. Any help most welcome or suggestions for a good engineer in Reading RG42 (repairs@ returned no results)

    🙄

Oh dear – a dodgy Hotpoint drum, with dodgy Indesit electronics – a great combination. The fault is a communications error – the display board and the power board aren’t talking to each other correctly. This could be anything – faulty/broken wiring, faulty display/selector board, faulty power board, machine not “faulting” correctly (Oh yes…….) – a potential nightmare.

You have a 5 year parts warranty on the appliance – I’d suggest paying Hotpoints callout and getting the parts for free – if it is board problems, it’s value for money repair.

If you’re going to have a look, check for broken/chaffed wiring and blown tracks – with the power off, of course.

    Hi Penguin,

Thanks very much for this. I did wonder whether Hotpoint shared the same electronics as Indesit. So sounds like a nightmare to troubleshoot then without some specialist knowledge or diagnostic tools.

Sounds like a call to Hotpoint, although I might do a visual check myself on wiring, boards and connecters if I can access them reasonably easily. I’ll try to post an update later if there’s any more knowledge on this to share. 😳
