Hotpoint BC20 dishwasher – not always starting

We have an integrated slimline dishwasher – Hotpoint BC20.

We regularly have issues with getting it to start to run. We set the setting, and close the door which should start it running. Maybe 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time this works. The rest of the times, we have to slam it a few times, or turn it off and on again, or leave it for half an hour and try again.

It works fine once running.

I have looked at the lock mechanism which I assume is where there is a sensor to say the door is closed, can’t see any obvious blockage. All looks fairly clean too.

Quick google suggests it could be the door latch, but can’t seem to find the right part for this dishwasher.

This is the most common door switch for that age of appliance.

You should really have a look at the switch mechanism first to see if there any obvious failures or burnt wiring to the micro switch. Be sure to isolate from the mains before opening up the door and watch the razor sharp edges of the inner door panel. One other thing to look out for with integrated appliances is to make sure the door is not fouling on the surrounding units.
