    Hi,
Main Oven not working. Tripped the RCD and as usual, just changed the element which solved the problem. This time, changed the element(the element had gone), but this time, Oven will not work. Fan is working. Could it be the thermostat? If so, is there an easy way to check? Also, looking at your spare parts, please could you point me in the right direction for the part, if needs be I’ll phone.
Before I do, just need to know if there is an easy check before pulling out the oven and taking it apart.
    Many thanks

I have deleted your duplicate post

there are various things it could be

selector switch check for blown contacts

thermostat you can check this with a multimeter

take it you have double checked the wires to the element

also much as it is very rare never assume the new part is ok check it just in case

    Hi Dave,
    Sorry for the duplicate post.
    Checked the new element O.K.
So when checking the Thermostat with a multimeter, looking for resistance? Does this mean I have to get into the back of the Oven? many thanks for all your help.

the thermostat connections are behind the knob so take the top off. it has 2 connections. if mutimeter has a buzz position use this. take 1 wire off and check between the 2 connections. if it buzzes it ok ( well its ok in the sense of the elelemt will get hot but if the contacts are welded it will overheat when you get it going )

Re: Hotpoint BD31 main Oven not working

    Hi Dave,
Checked the continuity. Helps to have the Small oven Thermostat next to the main oven. Pulled off the wire, no buzz between connectors. The small oven thermostat has when pulling off the one wire 🙂
So it points to the Thermostat. BTW, is there a way to just by-pass the thermostat (Temp wiring) just to see if the element heats up, if only for 5 seconds?
Again, many thanks for all your help
