Hotpoint BFI 620 Type LS12 – EVO3 S/N 60706 1298

This in an integrated machine with door edge controls.

The call that I had today was to the machine tripping the customers RCCB. Sure enough when I arrived, gave it a quick check and it did trip on what I took to be the heating stage, but couldn’t be sure with out putting some test instruments on it.

An hour and a half later I managed to get the machine out. 👿 👿 Don’t you just love kitchen fitters.

I put the megger on but to my surprise all clear. Fill with water just in case there was a leak in the element. Still clear.

Put the tong tester on, set a programme (I don’t know to set up a test programme on this model) I waited and waited for the heater to kick-in / trip rccb. neither happened. I got no heat at all.

Heater element 25K Ohms. I am getting 240 at the terminal of heater ie each terminal to earth but nothing across both terminals. Which suggests to me that there is a thermistor somewhere that is open circuit. I couldn’t find anything except the one inside the door panel clipped to the dispenser which seems to connect direct to the PCB.

Can anyone tell me if there is thermistor / thermostat anywhere else that I could check?

Is it possible that if the element was shorting to earth it took the pcb with it just before I got the machine out? Even so I think it is odd that the element is clear now.

I would appreciate your thoughts on this.

PS If I do have fit a new element I would be reluctant to fit the clips that are already there ( the ones that have to be squeezed with pincers ) I never have joy with those. Is it possible to get jubilee clips of the rigth size.?

Its a BFI 620. This will help if you want to do a search on it.

No heat to element is a common board fault. The thermistor comes with the new board.

The tripping, well thats difficult to call. Overheated heater connector, cooked terminals on board, not sure.

The heater clamps can be easily re-used by not unclipping them but by using a flat edged srew driver to open up the pinch.

The correct model number certainly helps. No wonder I couldn’t find any parts on Qualtex. I think my eyes still had tears in them from trying to to get the machine out.

I found 2 pcb’s on Qualtex. for this machine
C00143206 and C0014322. My serial number is 60706 1298 can anyone tell me which board I need also is there a test programme on these machines.

as for your earth fault …..look at the Suppressor / Terminal Block (5031687633279)connects part number…

ive had these split open.and go to earth.but only when the machines been running for a time…
