Hotpoint BL11/BZ21 + Powercut & Earth Leakage

Hiya,

Could really do with some help.

Our mains ring recently went out (earth leakage in system) and was rewired via a friend of ours to bypass the earth leakage trip as a temporary solution (until we can find the fault….aargh). However, our hotpoint integrated (under counter) BZ21 freezer unit stopped working. Only diagnosis is the red light on the front panel is permanently on. We have tried leaving it off for 24 hrs to no avail….same prob.

So:

1. Is it likely that our freezer is the cause of the earth leakage in the system?

2. What could be wrong with our freezer (no manual…inherited when moved in).

3. Is there a viable ‘fix’ i can do or should we spend a small fortune getting another one and/or engineer out? (if so, reccomendations?)

Any help from the people who actually know what they are doing (unlike me!) would be greatly appreciated.

You got me a bit worried here 😯

Is your friend of yours an electrician? if he is he will be able to check your freezer from it’s 13amp plug with his relevent test equiptment.
If he isn’t then then you only have the option to call an electrician/engineer in ASAP 😯

It is not a very safe practice to bypass an earth leakage trip, there is obviously a fault on something that is connected to your ring main which may well be your freezer, by bypassing the earth leakage system then you have no safety, and you may be putting yourself/family at risk.
