Hotpoint BWD12 WasherDryer Drying Problems

Hi There, I’ve got a Hotpoint BWD12 which has managed to behave itself for the last 4 years but has recently started playing up when drying (washing is fine).
When using the Timed drying everything still seems to be OK (touch wood) but when using the Extra Dry option it started by completing but leaving the laundry damp this was originally rectified by setting another quick timed drying cycle . Recently Extra Dry has started to mean that the drying times run for several hours (6+ in one instance) and I’m having to manually stop the cycle, even then tho the laundry isn’t fully dry.
I’m suspecting it’s something to do with a sensor on this type of drying cycle. As the machine is <5 years old (manual dated Nov 2002) is this likely to be covered by Hotpoint service engineer or is any self repair viable?
All suggestions gratefully received (including bin it and buy a Miele for £1500!)

Difficult to second guess what may be wrong, this is a 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} Indesit machine, the electronics can be troublesome. Apart from removing the mains plug and doing a quick visual check for loose contacts and wiring there is little else that you can do if the heating is intermittant.

If the machine is under five years old, from the proof of purchase or date code then all parts are fully covered, you only have to pay the labour charge.

Thanks Jim. I’ve not done exhaustive tests but Timed drying has aways worked as expected, sensor drying was the one that was troublesome. Have rung the shop I bought it from and he said that it may be possible to ‘reset the sensor’ by taking the top off and there’s a red or blue reset button visible ? (mind you he was ‘hands free’ in the van at the time so couldn’t visualise this particular model).

Looks like I’ll need to disassemble the kitchen unit (the price you pay for integrateds) and drag the thing out, if no joy then at least it’ll be accessible for the Hotpoint engineer.

You cannot ‘reset’ the temperature sensor, on some models you can press a button to reset the overheat/safety cut-out stat but not the temperature control stat or NTC.

OK Hotpoint service call it is then (and start saving my pennies for a decent machine).

I’ve got a rook rather than a rick but have met ‘The indestructible one’ several times over the years at local gigs.
