Hi I wonder if anyone can help, I have stripped sown somewhat my Hotpoint washer/dryer BWD20 to find out where a massive leak is coming fromappearing at the bottom back or the drum, when stripping it down I noticed two bolts holding the two parts of the drum together on one side had come very loose, these bolts seem to hold on the counter weight I think, I tightened both the top and bottom bolt and the drum closed back together, However there is still a small leak at the rear of the drum when the unit is in the wash cycle, the leak seems to come from under the heater part of the drum however its not coming from the heater itsself, would i be right in assuming that its coming from the drum seal that has been worn where there two parts of the drum have been rubbing due to friction and the bolts being loose? then the water would run down in between the spinning part of the drum to the back and work its way out at the bttom? or is there another seal? also if thats the case where can I get a drum seal from? Thanks for your help, Jerome

This is a Smeg made machine, not many of these about TBH.

Looking at the parts diagram there is no seal at the back of the drum, it may be leaking from around the bearing seal or have a break in a drum weld. 😥

Can you post up any pictures of the area you found the bolts loose etc?

You will need an image hosting site to do that.

It appears you had a loose counter weight, however check for any play with the inner drum, if there is any movement then the inner drum has cut through the outer drum just above the heater element surrounding fixing. Closer inspection will help

A new outer tub is available, part No. C00201823. As this is an integrated machine it may be cost effective to do this if required.

OK Guys I have put my comments into pictures hopefully for you expertas out there this will explaine everything..

The order is Explanation of pic then pic

The water runs along from above as earlier stated and drips off this metal bracket here.

The leak appears to be coming from here somewhere though I dont think its coming out of the heater it seems to me coming from a gap in between what looks like to be the back of the drum and the outer wall.

The Loose bolts were on the other side but identical posisions to this one (In the center of the pic) This is one and the one directly below it holding the counter weight on, It was leaking quite alot before i tightened the bolts and it seems to have slowed the leak by arounf 75 Persent which leads me to beleive that the friction has worn something..?

    Thanks for your help

As I mentioned earlier, I don’t see many of these machines TBH. Perhaps two or three in the past five years. Apart from the heater itself the are no seals at the back of the drum so it can only point to a split or hole in the outer drum itself somewhere.

If you fill the machine and let it stand does it leak or is it only when the drum is revolving?

Ok I have filled the drum with water and left it standing, and no leaks, I have also span the drum by hand a few times and it appears not to be leaking… any thoughts?

I wonder if the leak could be from the joint where the bottom of the condenser meets the tub? You really need to run it with the back off and observe it leaking in operation.
