Hotpoint BWM129 mysterious water fill

Hi,

Recently my washing machine has been occasionally filling with water for no apparent reason. Even when it’s not switched on. I can pump the water out again without a problem.
I live in a hard water area and I suspect there is limescale holding open a non return valve but this diagnosis is based on no knowledge.
I have tried doing a boil cycle with soda crystals and I have cleaned out all the drainage pipes and the u bend but that hasn’t helped.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Its either a faulty inlet valve or dodgy outlet pipe plumbing.

If you find water in the machine in the morning before the sink has been used then one of the inlet valves is faulty.

Simple test, turn off the hot (red) tap to the machine overnight and then check in the morning, if there is water in the drum and you turned the hot off then the cold valve is faulty if not then the hot valve is faulty.

If your outlet pipe is connected directly to the undersink plumbing then you need to make sure that at some point it is routed above the lowest level of the sink, if not the waste water from the sink can drain into the washer.

OK, thanks for that.

I think the problem must be the outlet pipe because it connects to the sink drain and flows slightly up to the ubend before going through the wall to the outside drain.

Had this set up for almost 3 years and never had this problem before though.

I will try to lift the w/m drain hose higher.

It may have been routed a little higher and dropped down over time.
