Participantopening the main oven door when in use causes electric to trip, switch trip back on oven works as normal, this fault is intermittent and only happens when opening oven door , opening the oven door operates microswitch to cut power to fan and element, have done insulation test on individual components apart from the main oven switch and thermostat situated behind the facia panel, i am pressuming the fault lies within one of these two components, but which one? has anyone else had this problem, is it best to replace both components or am i totally wrong and barking up the wrong tree? any help appreciated.

I assume it’s the RCD that trips? You could try removing the switch from the panel to isolate its metal parts from earth and see if it still trips. You can do the same with the thermostat but you would have to also isolate the capillary and probe. Have you ruled out the microswitch? I know they are plastic but some have metal rivets which may touch earthed metalwork.

Had a similar situation with a Neff double oven, intermittently tripped out the RCD, insulation tests showed nothing. It would heat up to the set temp and trip. reset and it was ok, if you then raised the temp setting it would be fine until the stat opened again.
Eventually tracked it to a faulty element????
Seemed hard to understand why it would throw the rcd when the circuit was broken. Could only put it down to an out of balance on the RCD circuit. New element and its been fine ever since.
Definately try a new element, easy to fit, cheap to buy. Probably the quickest way to test it out and its not the end of the world if its not that. (which I strongly suspect it will be) 😉January 2, 2010 at 6:55 pm #307457ddirect
