    Hey Y’all

    My old Hotpoint CDN7000P(UK)
    Serial 505126563
Thanks to you kind folk on this forum, I have replaced the Belt in the last year & the Pulley & Gasket around the front of the drum.

Anyhow, today it decided to stop spinning. Its heating ok, and I noticed that with no load or very little, it will spin but literally only with 5 pairs of socks, that’s about it anymore, and it stops spinning, but makes a humming sound.
So the belt is intact, no burning rubber smell.
The pump is ok I think, I can hear it gurgling away.

So I just wondered if you could once again point me in the right direction of what might be going on, or where to look?

    Thanks once again

    Simon

    One more thing.

Even with nothing in the dryer as the drum turns there is a slight thudding, as you would hear maybe if there was a full load and the load is falling side to side as the drum turns, but there is no load!

common fault for no drum turn is the capacitor

it normally starts with light loads but need a push to get a heavier load moving

    Thanks Dave

Its stopped turning altogether at the mo, it is making a sort of buzzing crackling noise.
    Still possibly capacitor?

If so, where is the capacitor situated, and is it replaceable?

    Thanks

I’ll head over to the online UKW shop
See if they have a capacitor.

    Thanks for your advice Dave

there are different values depending on motor fitted

you can either let us have the complete set of numbers off the rating plate or take the side off and check value

common one is 7uF but could be 8 you would need to check

    thats a gen part only

    https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/c00258619-8-5uf-capacitor

you could put an 8uF in to make it cheaper

    https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/g873197as-washing-machine-tumble-dryer-dishwasher-8uf-capacitor

should work almost as well. well enough so you would not notice

    Nuts!

Too late, I bought the Gen part.

Never mind, I’m happy to pay the extra just for the advice I’ve received.

    I’ll know for next time.;)

    Regards & Thanks

    Gents

    A quick question

I can see no markings on the Capacitor, so how can I tell which connector goes on which? Or doesn’t it matter.

    Thanks

    No Worries

Sorted it via youtube. In the sense that no video on YT mentions anything about which way around the wires connect, so I assumed that it doesn’t matter.
All put back together and working fine…… until next time.

So thanks Dave, I am once again very grateful for your help.

Just noticed that there is a little damp patch on the floor under the Tumble Dryer.
Water is collecting in the water Tank, but not a huge amount.

    What might that be?
