    Hi all,

    Thank you in advance for any advice. I have Hotpoint XECO95 T2I HG.1, I.C. 759991559630 and S/N 361908018854.

Recently the freezer is cold, the fridge is warm. I have dismantled the fridge and found the damper almost frozen closed. When I have taken the freezer condenser apart it has been covered in ice. I have defrosted it twice, to see if this fixed it, but all that happened was it all worked fine for 3-4 days, then the damper appeared to be frozen shut again and ice was building up on the condenser in the freezer compartment and icy liquid was seen around the bottom of the fridge near the damper area.

The damper seems to work fine, as when defrosted it opens and cools the fridge, then I can see it closing when the door to the fridge is opened.

I thought the defrost heater might be at fault, so ordered a replacement. This had the same continuity as the old one (1.5 Ohms), and has not fixed the problem. My next thought is that the defrost heater is not being turned on as it should be to melt the ice and remove the moisture/water from the upper part of the freezer. Could this ice/low temperature/moisture cause the damper to get stuck closed? The condensor seems to work fine as the freezer gets cold. The fan seems fine as I can hear and feel the cold air being blown into the fridge compartment.

What is the next most likely item to check/replace? Is there a thermistor/thermostat on the condensing unit that turns the defrost heater on and off? Is this easily tested and replaced? Or could it be the thermistor in the fridge compartment?

Any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated!

The door seals all seem fine, the appliance is only 3 years old. I will double check again though.

Is it possible to check whether the defrost cycle is functioning properly for this model? Is is every x hours, or after a certain amount of cycles, or when the thermostat reaches a certain temperature?

Dave – many thanks. The damper I have was from Oct 18, so I will look to replace this part next. Your advice/expertise is much appreciated!
