    Re: Hotpoint condensor dryer problem

hate those timers, they do have a loud crack as they reverse, jump out of my skin everytime, but it isn’t a fault, its just how they are :rolls: :rolls:

to reset the one shot stats, throw face down on floor from about a foot away, never damaged one yet

    ill say it again

its cut out for a reason

resetting them in anyway doesnt cure the fault

change the stat kit, check the condenser, and the capacitor

oh and by the way, trying to stop the drum after its started is not a test of a capacitor

the motor will run without the capacitor, once its going

It gives you an idea and if the motor is good and strong, any machine i have come across with a bad capacitor you will stop the drum with your hand especially on start up, but i also tested it with a capacitance meter anyway. 😉

Well back to square one, me thinks i’m going to cut my losses and advise to replace this heap of junk 👿 . I think she is thinking that way anyway.

I would question the customer a bit more like,
does she overload the dryer every now and then?
Is anyone else using the dryer apart from her?
Does she use them dryer freshner sheets when shes drying it could be laying across the filter causing a reduced airflow, overheat and the stats to trip.

    Re: Hotpoint condensor dryer problem

I don’t know i think these machines are pure crap compared to the older hotpoint/creda condensor dryers. It’s going to cost me money this machine if i carry on trying to fix it. I’m going to have to give her money back for the timer. I called to another one yesterday where the customer said smoke came out of it everywhere. I went to it and water had built up around the fan and got into the motor. It’s the second time i have called to it with built up water in the space of a year. The first time the water built up because the condensor was blocked, this time however the condensor was not blocked. I said ” Get a new one luv, it’s fecked!”, and so she did 😀

actually – (and from me, this is rare) i quite like these dryers

the build up of water is usually caused by the hole from the rear of the condenser to the pump is blocked, thats all

yes i fix a lot of them, but its the faults that keep us, the engineers going…

i nearly ALWAYS change the capacitor, and i rarely go back for a while

    Re: Hotpoint condensor dryer problem

its the same old chestnut aint it, if customers actually took the time to read the instruction book then we all would havr far less work me thinks. after they have told me wot a load of cr*p their machine is i then politely point out the condensor that is built up with fluff and hair, and explain that it does tell you in the instruction book to do so, then if you get call backs after that you at least have got a bit leverage to extract another charge

I’m actually embarrassed and ashamed to admit this but here goes. I think i may have found the problem. When i originally went to the house the customer told me she always cleans and checks the filter and condensor. I pulled the condensor at the time and it was spotless so i had no reason to doubt her claims.

I went back to the dryer again today for one last look. When the dryer was running i pulled out the condensor and the change in air flow was a lot. I then pulled the filter and it was practically wedged with about 2 inches of fluff! I’m kicking myself for not checking this myself. “oh that’s strange, i always keep that clean”

Anyway, now no change of airflow if the condensor is pulled in or out since i cleaned the filter. I put in new stats so fingers crossed.

So obviously the stats weren’t getting enough air flow hence getting a little too hot.

    Re: Hotpoint condensor dryer problem

States cut out for a reason.
And the reason is customers stop the dryer to check if clothes are dry and if they are, dont bother to put on cool down,
