Hotpoint Cooker grill not working but top oven is…

We have a Hotpoint EW74 electric cooker and the grill does not heat up but the top oven does work, Is the element separate for the top oven part or does it use the same element as the grill but more power.

When the grill is put on full only half of it is glowing (the left half as you look up) but when the top oven is on all of the element gets warm.

Just seems strange to me that on the grill its only using half of the element no matter what setting its on and when the top oven is in use it heats up the whole element surely if the top oven heats the whole lot up then why wouldn’t the grill do this. I hope I am making some sort of sense 😕

The element looks like one unit with 4 connectors onto it

i suspect the grill energy regulator is faulty. its a common problem.

Thanks Steve, least its not the element so this is looking like a switch fault then, I will test it with the multimeter tomorrow.

Just tested the grill switch and it is faulty when you turn the knob to full power for the grill but yet on half power the multimeter readings are as they should be, its like the switch is on half power all the time.

So looks like a new regulator switch is to be needed- Thanks again.
