ParticipantAnyone got any old stock? Just reading my local daily paper and found a big write up about a person trying to find an outlet capable of supplying a Hotpoint countess!
This is the link to the article …http://www.burtonmail.co.uk/detail.asp?cat=General News&id=5363992

I’ve got one of the single tubs in the photo, we picked one up on Tuesday from a customer that has just got round to his first automatic, an Asko top loader π

Ring the number and tell him! Nice bit of publicity for UKW if we work it right…………… π

I will, the way it reads is “he wants a twin tub” but I don’t think the guys that wrote the story know the difference.
I hope it still works, I know the wringer does as I installed a gas cooker for the same customer a few weeks back and we were discussing the beast at the time while I was waiting for the usual drop test to complete π

Better still, ring the paper – see if you can get them to move it – then it’s a triumph for them as well as us.
Love it……..

that article does show a pic of a Countess but says he wants an Empress.
When did anyone last fit an 081475 gearbox and 071120 post nut to a 1090 Empress. π

If that is his problem then even if he manages to find a Hotpoint Empress, he will have a hell of a time getting the wringer out of the front cupboard and locating it in the socket!! :rotfl:

The Countess would be a much more sensible option, Daves got one (it must look like Steptoe’s yard at the back of his place with all the stuff he hangs on to? π ) I have a spare Countess pump and sump hose (in stock) …….that would be his best bet I expect! :lol2:

P.S. If you haven’t visited this thread then you should. Those were the days eh?, when men were men, washing machines needed service engineers like myself, RS and iadom….willing and able and all for just a 17/6d call-out charge…! http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … c&start=30

From the paper:
Thanks very much for your e-mail regarding the washing machine.
I’ve spoken to James and he’s interested in the machine.
He said he would be happy to pay for delivery.
Please could you either contact myself or James by telephone (as James has
no e-mail) or send me your contact details so I can pass them on the James?π

Update……
I have just spoken to James on the phone and as he rightly points out, the paper got it wrong, there was no twin tub at that time, he wants (or wanted) a Countess and/or an Empress single tub.
He’s picked one of each locally so I’m going to send him the rollers and the internal hoses from the one I have, hopefully he’ll then be able to get one of them going.

Every day amazes by what I read on UKW, the majority of visitors want something for nothing and we all give that freely and in abundance. π
Today, and at great expense and inconvenience to some dedicated individuals, bringing the dead back to life………. π―
AMAZING!!!!!

KeymasterNo bad thing Martin, not a bad thing at all IMO.
And just think, maybe one day people will actually come to respect the poor repair guy. π

We even had to charge SET, Selective Employment Tax. Have you still got the monster box spanner for the Empress post nut. I got rid of mine a while back ( possibly a mistake ) it was taking up to much room. π I wonder how many old BTH moters are still running lathes etc in peoples sheds and garages. I also remember the large rotary ironer that fitted in the Empress wringer slot.
