ParticipantEvening all,
I have a Hotpoint Aquarius CTD00 condensing tumble dryer. While it still dries everything perfectly well, I have noticed (kind of hard to miss) that for the last two times I have used it no water has been condensed into the collector and that my garage is rather humid.
I’m guessing that the condenser unit on the dryer has failed, and I was wondering if anyone knew whether this is something that I am likely to be able to fix / replace, or if I should just ring up Hotpoint and get them to send out an engineer.
Any input much appreciated!
Cheers,

Condenser should be cleaned out at very regular intervals. The condenser cannot really ‘fail’ It is just a set of alloy plates, the warm moist air is blown over one side and cold air from outside the dryer is blown over the other side. The water condenses, drains into a float chamber and is pumped up to the top.
The design of the condenser in your machine is rather daft, in the earlier model you could see right through to make sure it was clean. Yours has a plastic front on it that will not come off.
The best way to clean it is with a garden hose or a pressure hose.
On well used machines the condenser should be cleaned once a week at the very least. If the condenser has become gunged up then some of the fluff can get into the drain channel behind the condenser causing similar problems.

Thanks for that. I’ll give it a go…

Right, finally got round to pulling the machine out and having a look. Directly behind the collection drawer there are two tubes – both leading from the bottom of the machine from a grey plastic section (the condensor?). One tube goes up and exits directly over where the hole in the top of the collection drawer is, so that must be where the condensed water is pumped out. The other, which is clear plastic, leads up and joins the machine a few inches below that. Not sure what that one is for.
Anyway, which of these (if any) do you recommend me taking off and sticking a hose down to clear out the works? 🙂

Neither of them, one is the pipe that feeds the water into the water container, the other is the overflow pipe, this sends that water back down into the float chamber, lifts the overflow float and stops the machine if you neglect to empty the water container.
The condensor you need to clean is down at the bottom left at the front, turn the three securing lugs and pull out the condensor. The grey plastic section at the back houses the pump and the float switch, the water drains into it via a channel at the back of the condensor chamber.
All the information on cleaning should be in your instruction manual.

Ahh, yes. Found the procedure. Bit embaressed. Distinct case of RTFM here. 😳
Anyway, sorry and thanks 🙂
