Hotpoint CTD00 Trips out fuse box when turned on

Hi All

I have a Hotpoint CTD00 which after working fine for years has stopped working and every time we switch it on it trips out the main fuse box!

My educated guess is telling me that something inside the tumble dryer has blown and is shorting out and the likely culprit would be either the motor or the heater element.

Am I barking up the right tree and If so how cost effective might a fix be?

heating elements stay damp especially if you only use low heat,and cause low insulation and trip the rcd. sometimes if you let it dry out it may be ok, check condenser and filters are clear

Hi All

Just to let you know I got to the bottom of this problem.

After doing some research (reading the tumble dryer self help bit) and asking the right questions at home, (we have recently moved off economy 7 so my misses was drying during the day and opening the door to see how they were doing) I diagnosed that the thermostat had gone.

I ordered replacements from here for under a tenner and fitted them easily and we are now back up and running.

thermostats wont cause an earth fault, you probably find that from leaving it sitting waiting for its part the element has probably dried out, I normally find the heater gets water sprayed over it due to a blockage to the pump casing…if the pump casing top is removed then the pump and float assembly removed there is a small slot on the left the water should pass through, this blocks up and the water ends up being sucked through by the fan and over your heater.
