Hi, My dryer seems to be getting hot ok but there is a smell like burning clothes coming from it & it’s taking a while to dry. No water is collecting in the tank either. Took condenser unit out and there’s about an inch of water in the bottom of the dryer. Any ideas please?? Out of it’s 1 year guarantee but still has 5 yr parts cover. Thanks!!

    Could be pump failure.

Also the condensor needs to be kept clean on a very regular basis, very awkward to do on these, a hose pipe in the back garden is the best way.

There is a small drain channel that runs from the back, right hand corner of the consdensor housing into the pump/float chamber at the back, this can get clogged up as well.

Smell could be due to water being blown onto the heating element.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.
Hubby took the dryer top of, cleaned out some bits of fluff, wiggled a few bits and mopped up all the water from the bottom of the casing. Put a load of drying on and it seemed to be working as normal. No smell and a normal drying time.
However when it had finished the water container was still empty and we found that the water had gone into the bottom of the casing again.
If it is the pump that has gone, how much will it cost, is it easy to mend or will I be as well to ring hotpoint and let them do it under the 5 year parts warranty. I had a look on this site but couldn’t find the part.

    Thanks again

The lift pump is in a box on the floor at the back of the machine. Unplug, pop the cover and lift the pump out. Clean out all the fluff and lint, then use a stout ty-rap to rod through the inlet channel in the left hand corner. If water flows into the chamber, you’ve cleared it.

If the pump is actually faulty, it’s part number 1702988. spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to get you one promptly.
