ParticipantI have owned this hotpoint ctd40 for one year and one day and it has stopped working 😡
The on/off light flashes very quickly, and the top two lights on the control panel (Time Delay and Pre Creasecare) flash more slowly.
As my warranty expired ONE day ago, you can imagine my annoyance. Hotpoint are unwilling to budge, so I wonder if it is something I could fix myself. I have no qualms about changing parts, but my experience lies more in dismantling computers than tumble dryers, so you may have to explain things slowly 😉
Hope someone can help.

I think that’s F12 – communications error between the boards. Can be wiring, can be faulty boards.
Strange how The Indesit Company lose interest after the warranty period. You do have a 5 year parts guarantee – if it does prove to be the boards, paying the £90 call-out might actually be the cheapest option.
Despite how awful this will look to future readers……… shame on you, Indesit.

Thanks Penguin45 – I feared I would have to pay the £90, at least I have a parts guarantee.
I will also be writing to the shop I bought it from, claiming that the machine was not of “satisfactory quality.” I’m pretty sure I can make a case that a £260 tumble dryer should last longer then 366 days.
Anyway, thanks for your help 🙂

You could always try some ‘sticky backed plastic’ 😆

The bit our OP will hate is if he does ring in for the “Free parts” deal, the first thing they’ll do is try and sell him an extended warranty……… for lots more money.
There are one or two manufacturers who would be rather more sympathetic – SMEG and Bosch spring to mind from recent forum posts – and will bend the rules a little in the interest of customer satisfaction and the maintenance of their reputation.
Ho, hum, back on our heads…..

You get a badge for that one 😀
Quick update, Penguin45 – you were right, communication error between the boards. Engineer has had a look, he thinks it’s not the wiring so will replace both boards. They should be here by the weekend!
Thanks for your advice, now I’m off to feed Shep 😉
