ParticipantWe puurchased a Hotpoint CTD80 drier in Jan 05 with small/medium usage.
Recently, we completed one drying load and then put on a second load. After around five minutes we heard a grating noise from the back of the drier. The machine stopped and now we have an error message F09.
Hotpoint are on their way next week. I have read that this could be a design fault with something being unbalanced causing damage to the back of the drier.
Does anybody know a) what this can be, b) cost of repair. c) has this happened to anyone else, if so what was Hotpoint’s take on this.
I would appreciate any helpful info on this matter. All answers received with thanks.
Many thanks

F09 is supposed to be a fault in the electronics. ‘Error set up file’ May need complete module. There has been a longstanding problem with the drums catching. A very recent modification to the drum shape as well as a thicker rear seal is supposed to cure this. All your parts will be covered by 5 year warranty, you will only have to pay the modest 😥 £90.00 labour charge.

Thanks for you words of wisdom giving us confidence.
When we bought the machine it had a 12 month warranty, Obviously, this has expired. Has Hotpoint admitted that there is a fault and extended the warranty to 5 years?
How would you suggest we tackle Hotpoint with this information?
Again, thanks in anticipation.
Sorry to drone on about this but we are really angry that we have spent quite a lotof money on a machine that has barely lasted 21 months!

All Hotpoint appliances have had a five year parts warranty for well over 25 years now, the dealers will rarely advise you of this, it makes their job of stitching you up with an overpriced maintenance contract easier. 😥
Some interesting reading for you.

Both the three or five year warranties where i work are much cheaper than Hotpoint’s £90 labour charge!
Hardly what i’d call a stitch up.

So you can get a five year warranty on a Hotpoint washing machine or dryer for under £90 from Comet. Do you inform the customer of the machines that actually have a manufacturers parts guarantee, or is that not company policy.?
Bear in mind, when you tell the customer you are selling them five year cover, you are not, you are selling them four year cover, the first 12 months are free anyway. Likewise your 3 year cover is in truth only a 2 year cover.
Jim.
PS.I know you are one of the good guys, but you are in the minority in shedland.
