ParticipantThere is an intermittent fault in this machine in that at times when the water container drawer is opened for emptying, there is a lot of water lying inside the compartment housing which spills down the front of the dryer on to the floor.
This happens despite the drawer never being anywhere near full.
While this is no way interferes with the proper operation of the machine, I am frightened that water might find its way on to the electrics and cause an electric shock or even worse.

Presumably some kind of leak at the filling point for the drawer – could be a simple alignment problem. It’s worth popping the lid off and having a look. Power off if making any adjustment, or click the link below for pro help.

Thank you for your prompt reply to my query.
The machine has just passed its first birthday, but thankfully I took out an extended warranty. Rather than monkey about with it myself I”ll put in a request for a visit from a service engineer from Hotpoint.
I just wanted to know what could have been causing this, and how serious it might be.
Cheers again.

It is essential that this machine is as near perfectly level as can be acheived.

Just to let you know the Hotpoint service engineer reiterited what you two lads had said about the alignment of the machine, and it having to be level.
He said fluff gets trapped in the aperture where the condensate flows into the water drawer causing the water to deflect and run down the side of the drawer into the drawer housing, but it is designed that this water flows back down a tube and gets recirculated, and this isn’t happening because the machine isn’t level.
He said it is difficult to detect this by taking the top off the machine and having a look, as the fluff has been washed away.
He told me to put a couple of beer mats (coasters) under the front feet.
I thank you again for your time and trouble.
