    Hi
Can anyone help please…….we have a hotpoint DC28. Recently we had to have the house water supply turned off for a leak to be repaired…..afterwards everything worked OK.after a few airlock ‘coughs ‘ except the dishwasher which will not start/fill. I havetried disconnecting the supply hose and the water runs free, there are no bits of muck in the filters that I can reach (large triangular plastic top(left hand side of floor inside) or outlet (right hand side of floor inside) and as far as I can tell the memory has been cleared (left switched off for 30 mins.clicked round to change settings and got four bleeps). Is there any sort of ‘reset’ after a water problem? How can i get it to start again..by the way the mains red light comes on and after setting programme one bleep and the prewash (far left) green light stays on but nothing further happens.Help please!

Have you checked the filter that is built into the water inlet valve? (You have to remove the hose to check this).

When there is a major plumbing problem, it is advisable to run the cold taps (ones that are directly connected to the rising mains) fully open, for several minutes, in order to flush out grit and other particulates, and soiled water from such maintenance. Debris can clog the valve filter, or even jam the valve. Water Boards usually advise against using washing machines and dishwashers as fill problems can occur. Contamination of the water softener resin is another possible problem.

Some machines have an “Aqua Stop” hose, which has the valve built into a block on the end of the hose (the end you fix to the tap). Such a system usually has the filter (also known as a strainer) at this end, incorporated into a sealing washer.

Other manufacturers use the ‘belt & braces’ principal, whereby a valve filter and a hose filter, are present.

Tray under machine may be flooded, if LED 1 stays lit. Power off, towels down, lean it back slowly and gently, see if any water runs out. If it does, you have to find the leak………

Reset is simply to set knob to “Change Programme” and wait for the lights to go out.

Thanks Penguin45……..I tried the tipping exercise…got to about 30 degrees off vertical,no sign of water drips, gave it a good shake and returned it to upright position,as a gesture against the machine and technology in general I slammed the door open and shut a couple of times and was amazed to find the thing burst into life and has subsequently done two loads of crocks………I haven’t the faintest idea what I did but it’s working so thanks for pointing me in the right direction……………..I don’t know whether this was true ‘impact maintenance’ in the lunar boot sense of the word but it’s OK and I’m grateful to you and the others.
    Cheers all!

It’s called Percussive Maintenance – knowing where to hit something can be priceless…… 😀
