Drain pump can be heard running but machine not emptying. The pump inspection cover was removed and showed the impellor is secure on its shaft. I have removed the pump and checked the pipework from the pump onwards. The only thing I can see that might be causing the problem is the anti-backfill flap on the pump outlet.

I keep thinking I must be missing some trick with these modern dishashers as I seem to have to do a total strip down for the most trivial repair. To remove the pump I did the following:

    1) Remove lid and top weight
    2) Remove both sides
    3) Turn machine upside down
    4) Remove front trim / front section of chassis
    5) Remove holders for mains cable, inlet valve and outlet hose from back of base
    6) Remove both door springs
    7) Unclip 2 motor retaining rubbers
    8) Unscrew lower front steel panel
    9) Unclip 2 multi plugs from base
    10) Remove screws securing base
    11) Lift base off machine
    12) Remove pump

Is there an easier method? I do all this in the workshop as I would not dare do stage 3) in a customers house. ❓

if its the synchronous type i’ve seen the occasional pump ‘hunting’…ie….the impellor turning backwards and forwards at high speed rather than rotating…check for any amount of stiffness when rotating the impellor by hand as this is the giveaway 😉
…as for replacing the pump if you are careful you can undo the two front base screws once the sides and kick panel are off and carefully hinge the tub back…one foot holding the base down, one hand pushing the cabinet back and the other hand clutching a block of wood ready to prop it open ;)…easiest if the outer door panel is off too but do make sure it’s propped securely though…the tub seams at the base are like guillotine blades!!!

    Hi Clive,
Eastlmark is gonna have a fit :rotfl: ! Me? I say upside down – he say take the cavity off……..

Went to a Nardi i/d/w yesterday, which is some sort of Merloni in disguise, no drain…… drain pump at 12 o’clock (ie, in the middle, at the back), big plastic undertray…… That’s an upside down one for sure – 4 screws and the tray comes off dead easy, if somewhat messy 😆 .

I am coming round more and more to the idea of an alternative Glorious Fifth – when UKW members go to Italy in August and shoot diswasher designers

    Cheers,
    Chris

Phidom, have you checked the drain hose for blockages either in the hose or where it fits onto the sink drain spigot? I’ve had lumps of butter or fat solidifying in the drain hose before now.

Thanks for the help, gents. Fault was intermittent so I don’t think it was down to solidified food residue. The motor felt OK when turned by hand and the appliance is only 2 years old so should not be worn out. It is back together and working fine now.

But did you ever find out what the fault was?
