ParticipantI bought my Hotpoint double oven in April and ever since it arrived I’ve found that if I use the grill for more than 10 minutes or so to grill chops or something, it then cuts out for up to 10 minutes and then comes on again when it’s ready. Is that normal? It’s annoying because the rest of the meal might be ready and I have to wait for the grill to catch up.

Moderatorare you grilling with the door open or closed. if closed then the oven stat kicks in on most models to prevent overheating

ParticipantI’ve actually tried both ways. My last grill had to be used with the door open so I usually do it the same way with this cooker. The grill gets incredibly hot and would burn food very quickly if it wasn’t watched, and then suddenly it just cuts out.

Hi did you get this resolved?
We’ve just bought a Hotpoint DD2544 and the grill/top oven cuts out after 10 mins.
Hotpoint insist this is normal to save power.
I am dubious.April 12, 2021 at 10:33 am #463192electrofix

ModeratorI know that Hotpoint in order to achieve A energy rating their ovens will cycle by turning fan and element off when it reaches temperature and both kick in again as and when temp drops to a preset level. On that basis yes it does seem possible that this could happen to the grill as well.
The instructions do state that grilling must be done with the door open. Page 12 of the instructions give average cooking times for different food products so it may be a case of new meal timings 😉
