ParticipantI was given a 2nd hand Hotpoint DF 22p and the cycle time is in excess of
3hrs. Thinking that this was too long I was advised to replace the timer switch. This I done but no matter what programme I use the dame thing goes on forever. Is this the norm or what should be the proper maximum cycle time.September 10, 2006 at 6:13 pm #188198iadom

You should have asked here first, 😉 Strange as it may seem the timer itself is one of the last things to cause extended wash times. This is a basic machine with no electronics. There are faults that can stop this machine from advancing, such as faulty fill valves, heater, breaks in wiring etc, but they will not slow it down, it will stick and not advance at all. The main causes of excessively long programme times are poor fill pressure, and possible drain outlet faults. The timer moves at exactly 60 secs per impulse except when the machine is heating. Excluding the Prewash setting there are 50 impulses during a normal wash cycle, the water is heated to 65° or 50° depending on programme selected. On the Superwash setting this can occur three times during a full cycle, leading to long wash times. Whilst three hours is a bit on the long side, have you actually timed this accurately. Generally, if this machine is going through to the end of the cycle and finishing the programme then it is not faulty.

Cheers tor reply. I had agood look at it over the weekend. Unfortunately it now sticks on normal wash and will not advance at all without manually turning the timer. Water pressure is good and drainage is good.

If that is the case it may well be that there is a heater related fault. This can be anything from broken wiring in the door harness near the hinge, heater or control timer failure ( which you have already eliminated at some considerable cost ) or other wiring failures.
Please be sure to remove the plug if you intend to go further or click the link in my sig to see if we have someone in your area who can help.
