I always do it against a wall. 😉
I have removed these tubs before and find the method in the Hotpoint manual fairly straightforward, just never had a leak from the heater box before.

Could I please ask how exactly how this is done? How do you deal with all the salt solution pouring out of the container? How do you manage to hold the motor, its rubber mount, the tub seal and the loose heater box in position whilst offering it back onto the tub?
Please explain? 😀

A bit late getting back to this, customer been on extended holiday.
Removing the inner tub as per the Hotpoint manual was a doddle, not worth the risk of water getting in places it shouldn’t by tipping it upside down. The fault was in fact the heater box, in the picture you should be able to see the long split in the underside.
I actually used a Bosch original, see this post.
http://tinyurl.com/m5moqAlmost half the £100 SSP of the Hotpoint one. It did differ slightly from the displaced unit. I have circled the part, top left that is missing on the Bosch replacement. It doesn’t actually fit to anything on the DF61 model, a bit like an ear lobe or an appendix, a vestigal organ. 😆

Any idea what that bit is used for on any other models, it is obviously sealed off from the heater box, but it has a small hole at the box end and retaining clips at the large end. 😕August 14, 2006 at 5:26 pm #180997gegsy

I think its where the turbidity sensor slots in 😕 on some models

Are you sure about that, it is open at the back with no way of fitting a hose or similar.

Yup Greg’s correct, that’s where the turbidity sensor slots in.

I see, I’m assuming then that the turbidity sensor had an integral inlet and outlet then.

Its infra red and transmitter and receiver are on a pcb in an C shape with the sensors at the tips. The unit is then are pushed home into that housing and a beam goes through a transclucent part of housing through water and back to receiver.
Thats as best I can remember, Im sure Boro will put me right, he usually does 😉 😆Greg

Very interesting, on another tack, I have inspected the displaced box very carefully and there seems to be a small hairline crack appearing on the top of the box as well.
