Hotpoint DF61 Dishwasher

Would appreciate any clues as to why my dishwasher cleans perfectly on the bottom tray, but leaves the top tray untouched. I have made sure that all visable pipework is free from any blockage, which it is. My theory is that the washer bar(?) is not spinning correctly (or at all) but I can’t see why.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Andy

Hi Andy,

you should be able to take off the top spray arm and give it a good clean, don’t ask me how but all sorts of gunk gets into them.

The other favourite is one of those dangling freshener things that stops the spray are rotating.

I have removed the top spray arm (now I know what it’s called), the pipe thats attached to the bottom of the basket and the one that runs up the back of the machine and given them all a good blast through with the hose to remove any gunk, we don’t have any dangly things either.

In that case you most likely have a fault and it could be several things but I’m not familiar with that particular appliance. So unless anyone knows of any other silly faults on them it’s likely an engineer job I’m afraid as most things that could cause that are either internal or a bit of a pain to put right.

Some of the guys will chirp up at some point today Andy that are more familiar than I am with that appliance.

There are no trick valves or anything on this model so, assuming you really have given the arm a good clean and it is free to turn then you may have a lack of water and the lower arm is using it all leaving none for the top. Its usually a grease blockage but its an engineers job really.

Ah! that’s a thought….Look carefully at the lower spray arm, to make sure it hasn’t been knocked and that the central column is fully clipped to the its main body 😉

Also if you have a ‘Torz’ screwdriver handy, remove the top spray arm connection near the base filter unit and check to see if the spout leading to that top spray arm ducting is not blocked 8)

The man from Hotpoint has been, it was as eastlmark suggested a grease blockage in one of the pipes hidden from view which led to the machine thinking it had enough water when it fact it hadn’t.
