Hi I have a Hotpoint DF62 which is going well except the dispense drawer has been coming off a bit lately – usually I can just pop it back on but perhaps have done this too forcibly.
The drawer won’t shut and I can see that the white catch that ought to hold the door shut seems to be broken.
I can see that I can order the spring and catch together online, but I have no idea how I would fit this and if it is easy or difficult.
Can anyone advise how you replace the catch?

This is a Bosch based appliance. Nine times out of ten it is just the spring that breaks although you cannot order the spring on it’s own, only the spring, latch and small rubber seal as a kit.
Changing the spring is a bit of a fiddle but simple enough once you work out which way round it goes, I did one only yesterday as a matter of fact. 🙂
Changing the latch is a whole different ball game. The outer door panel has to be removed to access both sides of the dispenser, some very sharp edges involved. Be sure to remove the mains plug and watch your hands if you are going to attempt this.

By eck K, you beat me to it, I was just about to edit my post to suggest buying the Bosch one as it is half the price of the one from Hotpoint. That is the correct part required. 8)

Thank you. It is the catch that is broken, the spring is still ok. If it is fiddly then perhaps I would be better off getting the whole dispenser and replacing that – I have had the washer for many years (12 or more) so it’s likely other parts in the dispenser might be on the edge – perhaps replacing the whole thing is better/easier.

There are two different dispensers fitted to your machine, it depends on the serial number/date code. that one will only fit machines after date code 70.
TBH if you have never attempted a repair on an electrical appliance I would be minded to advise you to get someone with the proper experience to do this job.
However if you still feel you are up to it then given the very small cost of the latch kit I would give that a go first. Not only will it save you some money but unlike a dispenser change it does not involve any electrical connections or the water sealing of the dispenser to the inner door.

Ok thank you, I will have to decide then whether to get someone to fix it or whether to order in that part. There is a repair shop nearby so I can give them a call and see how much they would charge me.
How hard do you think it would be to change the latch? I can often fix stuff that breaks but I am no mechanic!

As I am totally unaware of your skills it is impossible for me to say how hard you would find it. I would consider it a very simple repair, but that’s with the benefit of many years of experience. I often get customers telling me that the simple task of checking the pump filter on their washing machine is beyond them. :rolls:

Ha ha oh i am not that bad, that I have to clear out every week due to the many things i miss (hairbands, very small toy guns etc), and I can fix things where i can see what ought to go where, or where i have some instructions.
I might order the part, have a go very carefully and see how I get on. I’ll ask the shop down the road how much they would charge first, but am assuming its goign to be lots!
Could you advise how you go about replacing the clip?

Clip? Do you mean the drawer flap spring?

No the spring is fine, it is the catch that holds the drawer shut. In the picture of the replacement, it is the blue part. The catch on the lid is fine it is the catch on the part that is fixed in the dispenser.

That would be the latch then. 😉
Once you split the door you should be able to see how it is fitted, new one comes with a small rubber seal that must be fitted to the new latch.

Ooops latch/catch – not a promising start ha ha.
I have ordered the part and am looking forward to seeing if I can do it myself! Failing that the shop down the road will come out for £65 but I’d rather not pay that.
