My Hotpoint Dishwasher DF62 does not fill!

I have so far tried and checked:
    1) The water supply is turned on.
    2) The water supply hose is not kinked.
    3) The water supply filter (behind the supply hose to the appliance is not clogged.
    4) The waste pump is not blocked and pumps waste water out when machine is filled manually.
    5) The float switch chambers on the LHS of the machine have been cleaned out.
    6) The waste pipes are clean.
    7) The machine arms are clear and water sprays when machine is run after a manul fill up.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be?
Having managed to take the thing apart and put it back together I think with a little help I may be able to fix this.

I cannot afford a new machine or call out fees.

Re: Hotpoint Dishwasher DF62 does not fill

The water inlet valve would be the primary suspect I would think and it’s this one that’s in that machine…

Re: Hotpoint Dishwasher DF62 does not fill

How do I get access to it.
It is at the back of the machine towards the left.
There is a black plastic bottom to the machine. I have managed to get the front piece off and the galvanised plate, but cannot see how to get at the valve.
I am hoping it only needs cleaning.
I don’t want to buy one for £26 and find out it is something else.

By the way do I need to prime the float tubes chamber?
Can I test the float switches by by-passing them?

Re: Hotpoint Dishwasher DF62 does not fill

To be blunt, since you’re asking how to get access to a water valve (it is where the inlet hose screws on BTW) then by-passing things to test anything is at best ill advised.

Testing any appliance by by-passing components, especially safety related ones, is only ever done by those that know exactly what they’re doing and what they are looking for. But, in the case of a dishwasher or washing machine, there are virtually no components that can be taken out of circuit and the machine still work.

You will need to test the field coil on the water valve for continuity with a multimeter as a first step in diagnosing what the fault is. I said the water valve was the primary suspect, I can’t say that it will be that for sure with any degree of certainty without you testing it.

If that sounds like Greek to you or you don’t have a meter to test it with, I’d strongly advise that you get a pro in to do it for you.

OK point taken so I wont go by-passing anything.

I wanted to know how to get access to the water inlet valve.
I know where it is, I can see some of it at the back of the machine. But the rest is hidden behind a black plastic panel.

Like everything else on this damm machine: access is not easy.
Diagnostics difficult, repairs hard and spares expensive.
Hoptpoint just want you to buy a new machine me thinks.

Its actually a Bosch based machine so a really decent piece of kit, unlike the current Hotpoint stuff which are Indesit under the skin. 😥

The plastic panel the valve is mounted on can be ‘carefully’ prised out of the back to access and test.

Thanks I will give it a go and see if that is the cause.
“carefully prised” is there any other way to get the bits off this! I had tio carefuly prsie quite a lot the last time I had a go.

I wish I could get an exploded view diagram of all the parts.
like a Haynes Manual for a car

Re: Hotpoint Dishwasher DF62 does not fill

Well if you look very closely along the top edge of the inner stainless steal door you may just be able to see the original Bosch Enr number etched into it. Enter that in the Bosch online spares web site and you may get lucky with a parts blow up.

Re: Hotpoint Dishwasher DF62 does not fill with water

First of all a big thank you to those that gave me advice.
It was indeed the cold water inlet valve that had jammed.

For the benefit of others – here is a guide to what I did to make it work. Turn the power off!
    1) Remove the left hand side panel. To do this unscrew the two machine screws you can see when the door is open. Then carefully prise out the panel from the top first and away from the nylon lug at the back near the top. Once the top is out the panel should just lift up and away.
    2) You can then examine the float chambers and waste tubes. A good idea now to clean these out. If you are logical everything can be easilly removed in order.

    3) Now for the cold water inlet valve.
This is at the back of the machine at low level.
FIRST TURN THE WATER OFF TO THE HOSE!
Then undo the hose at the machine end. Have a sponge with you as the water in the tube will drain out.
Next prise out the white nylon panel that retains the valve and slide the panel off the valve.
Take of the electrical connections and label them so you know which went where when you put it back together.
Next, and this is a bit fiddly, take of the blue hose to the valve. It is retianed with a spring clip which can be moved using pliers but there is not a lot of room.
Now you should have the valve in your hand.

What I did was to reconnect the valve outside the machine but with the other end of the blue hose discharging into a bucket. I then turned on the machine and watched to see if it filled – it didnt!

I removed the magnet bit of the valve from the nylon valve and immersed the nylon part in a cup of boiling water. I took it out from time to time and gave it a good shake. It started to rattle so I guessed what ever had jammed it had now gone.

I put it back togther and re assembled it outside the machine as before discharging into the bucket again and this time it worked.
I then reconnected the hose properly and I am running a cycle to ensure all is OK. I did have a slight leak to the float chamber push fits which was easilly fixed.

    So far all is good.
If it dioes not fill again anytime soon, this time I will know it is the water inlet valve.

It is so easy to just buy a new machine these days, in spending a few hours finding out what was wrong, I have hopefully managed to keep it going for a few more years.
