I have a Hotpoint DWF50 Dishwasher and this is the third time in the last two years that i have encountered the dreaded flashing “Eco & Fast” error code.

The first time this happened i searched the internet for what on earth the flashing lights meant and found this forum! I’d like to thank everybody who’s posts i have read to gain an understanding into the fact that I probably had a blocked pump!

I didnt fancy opening up the machine in an attempt to unblock it so tried another method.

I have no idea whether i have done the right thing, in fact i’m half expecting the experts to say i haven’t but i have managed to get it working again without calling anybody out.

I bought a “Power Plumber Plunger Kit” from B&Q. It shoots a blast of gas into the drain and clears the blockage. (It smells like lemon too!)

This has worked so far (i had to use it several times and used a Mr Muscle sink and drain unblocker gel aswell this time- quite stubborn blockage?). I have so far hoped that the blockage was food based (and not a bit of plastic that has snapped off the rather useless cutlery basket handle) and would be cleared by this.

I’m posting this so that, if the experts say it has done no harm, it might give somebody else another option rather than attempting to do it yourself and open up a machine when not really knowing what they’re doing!

I guess no one else has replied to this post as they are still :rotl:

To any member of the public reading this. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TRY THIS.

Most dishwashers have ‘non return’ valves fitted to prevent the drain water from re entering the machine. you would very likely damage these using this method of unblocking, you could also ‘blow off’ internal hoses. You should not try to unblock by forcing anything, water, gas or whatever, back into the dishwasher. As almost all blockages can be avoided by taking care of what you put in the appliance, making sure you have checked all round the filter, before you remove it, rinsing the dishes before you put them in to avoid build up of gunge in the machine etc.
The strong chemicals in Mr Muscle or similar caustic products may also cause damage to the dishwasher.
