I have a mate in the trade who has asked me to put this on here.
He is stuck on a job with a Hotpoint freestanding dishwasher thats foaming up like mad when a tablet is put in for the wash.
He is a very good engineer and has loads of experience with dishwashers. There is no rinse aid installed in the machine. there is no salt installed either (area doesnt require salt). Customer has changed detergent brand. If the machine is used without any detergent it works fine. Customer has been getting by with only half a tablet per wash.
This is one of the chinese style machines.
All seems a bit weird to me, any ideas guys?
    Thanks,
    Rob.

Lately i have gone to houses where the base has been flooded on the diswasher with no obvious leaks. Due to over foaming and most cases the customer was using those fairy active bursts and the Whirlpool diswasher’s was mostly what i was called to.

This guy is VERY used to dishwashers, we agree that detergent seems like the most obvious answer but why should one hotpoint dishwasher opperate ok with one complete tablet in and then this one more or less over foam with only half a tablet in?
Bit weird if you ask me… I have done loads of d/w repairs myself in the past and present and come accross the over foam problem just about every day. He seems quite sure this isnt the issue here.
Rinse aid tank is completley empty and salt makes no difference either..
    God knows…
    Thanks,
    Rob.

    Re: Hotpoint dishwasher foaming up…

I had a modern hotpoint leaking from the door the other week it seemed to be foaming up slightly. I was going to suggest a new door seal until I found out you have to have the door inner as well 👿 . So I told him to try using separate powder, salt, rinse aid etc this cured the problem so I think it is worth giving a go, after all it has got to be detergent related problem. IMO Finish products should be used and if this sorts the problem then try other cheaper brands is desired.

The answer is in your very first post, the dreaded word ‘chinese’. If he had an earlier Hotpoint model then the chances are it was based on a vastly superior Bosch design.

What he has now is a poorly designed Indesit machine that has been built in China. Oversoaping on these is a very common and well documented problem.

I am sure that I read a few years ago about complaints of this nature reaching the courts in New Zealand.

Worth checking that the lower spray arm doesn’t have a small spilt in it.

If this customer lives in an area that requires no salt, it must be a soft water area….

Finish Powerball gives loads of problems, I always tell customer to pluck out the ball. Because it doesn’t always devolve and flush away properly which leaves the next fill with a dose of rinse-aid sitting in the bottom ready to foam up.

Finish all in one tabs are causing big problems my way, had a call it was hubby that was home couldnt find a thing wrong, i asked about which tablets they used and was advised we have always used the same ones, i ended up with a recall and phoned them to stick it on a programe, it was foaming up big style, the missus was there turns out supermarket was doing a special with these Finish all in one jobs, 10 active ingrediants the box looks the same but up here with lovely soft water it causes havoc, she changed back to the old ones and i have never been back.jj
