Hotpoint double oven (BD31) grill not working

I have a Hotpoint double oven BD31 which has a 2-element grill in the top (small) oven. Both elements of the grill are not working and no heat is coming out at all from either element when the grill is set on either “full” or “half grill” setting.

Yet, both grill elements seem to work OK (and certainly get very hot) when the top oven is used as an oven or when the plate warming setting (in top oven) is used.

Initially, I thought the grill elements had gone – but it seems unlikely that both elements go at same time ? And why do they work when top oven is used ?

Any thoughts on what the problem might be ? Thanks for any advice. Malcolm

my guess would be a faulty grill regulator thats behind the full and half setting knob .
If elements are working on oven then they are fine.
if u able to turn oven on and of and it has grill postion on there on same knob i would think that the selector switch is ok. unless u really unlucky

Just to clarify. There are 2 control knobs/dials affecting the top oven/grill – and a separate one for the main oven.

There’s an “oven/grill selector” knob and this selects:-
– top oven temperature, or
– plate warming facility, or
– grill (with option for full or half-grill)

A separate control (labelled “grill” & with numbers 1-6 on dial) just controls the grill heat (whether on full or half-grill setting).

Everything else on the oven/grill selector knob works fine. From what you said, does this sound more like a problem with the grill temperature control, rather than the selector ? Thanks .. Malcolm

if i was to guess i would say the grill regulator the 1 to 6 dial will most likely have a small square shaped regulator behind the knob , this is only a guess tho
