Hi, can someone give me some advice please. I have dismantled my Hotpoint Aquarius wf540 because i believed i needed to renew the bearings. When i seperated the outer drum i found that the bearing seems free and ok but the drum is loose, so im assuming that the spider has broken. unfortunately i cannot release the shaft from the bearing despite much persuation… Any tips for releasing it? Also the machine is around 8 years old now. Is it financially worthwhile to put all of this right on a machine this old, or should i cut my losses and retire the ole girl??

To get the shaft out from the rear half it can take quite a lot of force. Normally use a copper hammer and hit it hard

. I’m often found smashing a rear half around a customers driveway cursing it to he’ll trying to get it out.

ok madangler, thanks for that. That sounds very similar to what i have been doing, perhaps not cursing quite enough! I guess i just need to hit it harder!
