Seen this tool on qualtex site pt no.hptc00142716 or pttn qual182 –
anyone use one, are they any good ? (belt part 1703666 stretch)
Last belt I fitted on condenser dryer took me friggin ages to fit it on the motor pulley.
I’m either getting past it or have lost the knack.
Anyway just wondered if this tool works, looks a bit odd though!, how does it work?

I use the Qualtex version of this all the time on the vented ones, it won’t fit most of the condensers though.

The way to use it is to take the right hand side of the machine off, the tool has a prong that you insert into a slot in the base (in line with the motor pulley), you then use the 2 prongs halfway up to pull the belt down and hook it onto the pulley, it just acts as a big lever and saves the fingers.

Ok Jem, will try the qualtex version, any tips on fitting the condenser belts or is it a case of
    blood sweat & tears.

If your just swapping the jockey pulley then the old belt should be a bit easier to get on, new belts i usually give a pre stretch under me boot before sliding over the drum, and if you give the belt a blast of hot air for a minute or 2 it becomes more supple.

I use an old cut drive belt to thread under the new belt and pull it taught while slowly rotating the drum

The condenser dryers take more time but once you do a few you get the flow of it. I use the belt tool as well and its a doddle

I now take the rear fan and the rear motor bolts off to tension the motor in position. (apparently this is the way the Indesit engineers are advised to do it).

Use a top spring from a hotpoint washing machine to pull the belt on to the pulley whilst turning the rear fan. Harder with a new belt – stretch it first with a bit of heat. Removing the rear fan and trying to get those rear motor bolts lined up is a pain.

Have to agree, never, ever removed rear fan or slackened motor bolts. Sometimes use the old belt threaded under the new one to pull it onto the pulley. Also much easier to remove the inner fan cowling and fan to allow better access to the pulley.

Bolts line up dead easy imo. Use a pair of pipe grips on motor to lever it down. You don’t remove all the bolts just 3 and slacken the other to give a pivot point. Just the way I do it if others find another easier way then brilliant. Don’t suppose there’s ever a correct way

i do this a different way and find it really easy and quick, take the front fan off and remove the pulley bolt nearest you, loosen the other pulley bolt and disengage the hook of the pulley from the motor, push the wheel all the way round away from you using the bolt left in place as a pivot, then put belt in place and pull wheel back towards you once its lined up with motor you can hook it back in place an refit the 2nd bolt, tighten both and jobs done, i can fit these belts with this method in less than 10 minutes 🙂

Yes tried this way today , piece of cake.
Its funny how you think – “why didn’t i think of that” , when it looks so bleedin’ obvious.
    Cheers A1. 😀

the unoffical hotpoint/indesit way, but we still have to spend 40 minutes on the call
