Hi to anyone who can this first time user…

I’ve looked through other related posts, but don’t see anything that relates to my make and model.

I have a Hotpoint condenser tumble dryer that is no longer heating.

    MODEL : CTD40P – “Aquarius”

I am guessing that the problem is due to a burned out thermostat, but have had no joy in finding a wiring diagram on the Internet.

    My dilemna is as follows:

    1. I’ve located a thermostat, (should there be more than one?)

    2. What state should the thermostat be in if it is burned out?
    ( I assume “OPEN”)

    3. The markings in between the terminals look like “ELTH”, “Type 279” and “T175”

    4. The markings in the side say “01-05” and “6900”

If it turns out that this is the faulty component, then where can I order a replacement?

Any advise would be really appreciate as nearly every radiator in our house is draped in various drying garments.

    Thanks,

    Dave

There should be two thermostats above the heating element. All thermostats on this machine should be normally closed. If the safety thermostat has tripped, you need kit 1703607 – spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to supply for you.

BUT – why have they failed? Have a read of this:

    HTH,
Stay safe, power off at all times.

Thanks for the advise – I’ve passed on the info in the article to my wife, but I guess she won’t pay any attention and still keep opening the door part way through cycle, so I’ll probably end up buying her a washing line.

More seriously though, there is only one thermostat that is visible. I can see a recess in the moulding where a second ‘stat “could” be seated, but there’s no wires ?! any ideas where the other one may be – and is it safe to operate the machine with only one? – I purchased “brand-new” from Comet, so are they selling potentially dangerous goods??

Then I guess you are looking in the wrong place? Possibly you are looking at the t/stat in the front cowl having just removed the lid maybe?

Pengiun45 was referring to the 3 stats above the heater box (at the back of the appliance!) 😉

    Take a look there ❓

You’re right – that’s the place that I have been looking at.

    I’ll take another look tonight.

BTW – I really appreciate your advise here – this site is excellent !
