i had another thread about this cr@p machine further down the page, and now, after spending about £70 here on bits, it still isn’t right. it kept stopping mid cycle and took the stats out. i changed the capacitor, but that didn’t cure it – it stopped and popped the stat again. i changed the timer and test ran it for 2 days – yes 2 whole days. yesterday i took the plunge and fitted another pair of stats, quite satisfied the fault was cured. but no…today, apparently, wife says she set it for 60 minutes, and it stopped at 40 minutes like before. what more can i do? plan A is take off the new bits i have fitted and sell them, then stick a damn big sledge hammer through the useless piece of 5 hit, and enjoy it. before i do that, does anyone have any other ideas? i would call out my friendly local repair man at this stage, but i’m not prepared to throw away good money after bad. he’ll charge me £30 plus any parts, and that way exceeds the value of the machine in my opinion, even though it was new in feb 2007… 👿

er…must be by the lock because i haven’t seen one up by the timer. i can pull it apart again tonight to check. well, actually, i don’t need a screwdriver any more, i just whistle and the screws take themselves out now. 😀

if you leave the door open and click start, does it do nothing, or does it buzz?

ok – if this relay board is the white coloured thingy with a plunger thing on it that the door pin acts on? then yes, i located it and it’s clipped to the rear of the front panel. i took it off, cleaned it and lubed it with wd40 and refitted it and tested it. is this the item people refer to? any more i can do to it or should it be replaced?
not impossible on that one, its a bitron lock, and the relay was integrated to the door lock
there was an issue with those switches, although it isnt the problem you have
if im honest, its the only thing left that could cause your problem

you know? i think the motor’s going down. been running it all evening, it’s stopped three times. first 2 times after 60 mins running. tried running it with the door open. when pressing the start button, the motor kind of groans – but doesn’t do anything. no amount of jiggling the timer to different posns does anything. let it cool for a couple of mins, and it will run again – for a few minutes. let it cool more and it will run for longer. there’s nothing holding the drum back. if it’s heat/time related, it feels more like something like the motor to me – a relay wouldn’t be affected like this would it? if it was a vibration/wear related problem connected to the relay, surely the breakdown would me more intermittant and it would restart immediately?

There is a thermal overload cut-out embedded in the motor windings. Too hot, it shuts down. I haven’t had to change a motor in one of these (yet). I have had motors shutting down due to the drum dragging and not turning freely. If you push the drum round by hand from the top, it should feel heavy, but actually turn quite freely.
The motor will be pretty damn hot before the TOC shuts off – you won’t want to handle it.

it does turn freely, yes, i checked this already.
think it’s time for a new one – and it won’t be a damn hotpoint.get a zanussi mate, will give you yeasr of trouble free drying… little bit more money, better quality

already did order a Zanussi yesterday dinnertime – looks like i got one thing right eh? 😀 and i took the option of an extended 5 yr parts/labour g/tee.
the old one? selling as spares/repair if anyone wants it. also, i took off the new capacitor and timer as they didn’t fix the problem, so are as new/boxed – again, if anyone here needs them cheapo. PM me if you prefer. 😉
