Element is switched off for the short reverse tumble, I have changed several door frame stats, every single one for O/C, never had one stick closed.
Have you actually changed the capacitor, its the first thing I would have done if everything is clean and clear, after that then I would suspect the timer is not switching the heater off, easily checked if you have a plug in digital meter.
Easiest way to quickly check capacitor is to remove the lid and place one hand firmly on top of the drum then switch it on, if you can hold the drum with very little force then the capacitor is shot, it will be virtually impossible to hold the drum by hand if it is OK.
The clean filter light should come on when the door is opened and the timer contacts are in a certain position, it is not linked to any stats it’s just a general warning or advice light.;)

The clean filter light should come on, that is normal when the timer is in a certain position, I have never, ever seen a door frame stat cause an overheat situation, only no heat.
Have you changed the capacitor yet?
