ParticipantThought this was going to be a simple job…
It Uses the common late type element that we have all fitted and usualy enjoy fitting. (The one thats held on with 1 screw behind the back plate.)
The old one had a blow hole in it so I wandered there and then if the stat was going to be ok, but it had a good click with it and the neon light went on and off. Ordered an element and went back today (I do usualy carry these on the car).
Fitted just as easy as normal but no heat??? double checked the function i was using, was ok… Re-removed element to make sure a wire hadnt come off. Was ok. Thought ‘bet it’s stat’. checked with audiable continuity tester on meter. Was ok. All TOC’s are ok, Checked throught the contacts which move down on the selector switch for the main oven setting and got continuity through all of them. At this point I’m a bit puzzled. Could it be the clock? Perhaps it’s blown that bad it’s maybe blown a contact in one of the relays in the clock?
Help please……..
Thanks

Did you have a good look at the selector switch.I have had them blow a trace across the link on the switch especially if the heater has blown with a bit of venom.

I did have a good look at the selector switch, I even scratched the points with my neon terminal driver to freshen them up, but to no avail. The selector switch was my first thought really along with the stat of course.
Just wish I had one in my pocket though so I could rule it out…April 3, 2008 at 1:02 am #247757aqualectric

The link referred to is under the right hand side tags on the selector switch looking from the front. (it is under the first tags on that side) It is a very small copper coloured plate that slips over the 2 tags and links them. Very easy to miss. 😉 They have a habit of blowing and the circuit is broken. Remove all traces of the link to avoid it getting in the selector mechanism.
Make up a stout link wire with piggyback amp tags and fit it to span the broken connection.HTH,
Steve.

Thank you very much for that kiddo66 & aqualectric.
I went back to it today, as you said, blown link in the switch first contacts on the r/h side. Was very hard to spot too! I had to take the switch off and turn it upside down before I could see it. I cut into the wiring and linked it togeather with a butt connector, works a treat!
Thanks again!
