I have a hotpoint DWF30 which is about 9 years old. It’s worked perfectly, uptill now – for the last couple of washes the detergent compartment has not opened – leaving a gooey mess from the tablet.

Is there a way to clean the runners, or is the spring damged – appears to return OK when the tab is pressed thoigh.

Or do I need to replace the whole unit.

Can the mechanism be approached from removingt the front panel??

    Many thanks

You should be able to carefully prise the lid off to examine the spring, quite a common failure point on these Bosch based machines.

Spring and latch available as a kit, don’t even think about a new unit, nearly £80.00 ex vat.

A bit fiddly to refit, most engineers will just refit the spring if the latch appears to move freely. Can be done without removing any screws or panels if you are only changing the spring.

THIS is the part you need, its a Bosch one, much cheaper than the exact same part from Hotpoint, in fact half the price. 😉

Remember to remove the mains plug if you do open up the door.

    Hi

I replaced the spring, but no difference. The drawer is still not opening.

The latch (this does seem to produce some clicking noises when it is rotated) though appears to be quite tight – can it be pulled out from the spring end. Do I need to use a screwdriver to lever it out. Or does it need the front panel removing???

Again many thanks for any replies

Was the original spring broken ? If so then you may not have refitted the new one correctly, it is a funny spring to refit and only works if fitted the right way round.

Its easy enough to test, close the lid until it clicks then press the small latch that sticks out at the end, the drawer should flick open when you do this.

The latch shouldn’t really be rotated, it should just move a few degrees to allow the lever to trip.

You will need to remove the door front panel to access the other end of the latch mechanism. Be sure to unplug the appliance and watch out for the edges of the inner door, very sharp. When refitting take care to line up the control knobs and buttons.

    Hi

No the original was perfect & the dispenser opened OK, just by pushing the blue tab. This does not happen during the wash cycle where it remains closed.

The latch does only rotate a few degrees (about 30) & makes a few clicking sounds as if something underneath is being moved.

Does sound as though the dispenser solenoid may be faulty.

The solenoid is available from Bosch as a separate part, checking it with a meggar or multimeter would be the next step. It could also be a fault in the wiring or the controls that switch the dispenser solenoid on.

    Solenoid coil is HERE

It might be time to call for the cavalry, the dispenser & the control module are serious money and you would need to be certain you needed them before spending lots of cash on them.

The complete dispenser listed in our Shop@ is much cheaper than £80.00 that Hotpoint/Indesit have it listed at.

    Jim.
