The dishwasher starts cycle and when going to wash it makes a spluttering noise as if it is struggling to wash, we have stopped the machine mid cycle as it never makes this noise and the soap dispenser door has not released. There is water in the bottom of the machine and steam appears when openned. Please help diagnose the problem!

If you pop the door open quickly, is there water coming from the rotors?

I have just tried it and openned the door in the wash cycle, when making the noise and the rotor blades were stationery. The machine is asking for rinse aid and I only filled it up last time used and the time before, seems to be using too much of this – hope this helps 😕
