    First of all MERRY CHRISTMAS
    great forum

    I have a Hotpoint eco-Frost free fridge freezer ecofm171g

    Just 2 years old

    The fan stopped working

So removed the fan the voltage on the fan was 11.6 V

so put the fan on a car battery and it worked fine but when when we tested the fan on Multitester came up open circuit

Now the compressor has stopped working we changed the start capacitor

    Still no joy

So the next thing I will try the relay

Before all this it work ok but only the fan wasn’t working

    Any advice would be great

    Thanks

the fan will have a pcb inside it so probably wont read on a multimeter. you are correct the unit is 12 volts

when you read the voltage going to the fan was the fan attached? if not then since the multimeter draws very little current its not a fair test

what I did find was a test procedure

    hope it helps

    Thanks for the reply

I have tried using the test you sent

    It is a bit confusing

The light flashes on and off as it says and I can hear the fan kick on

And the element in the freezer at the back at the top is getting hot

But I can’t hear the compressor kick in

If I finds a fault does it stop on that or does it continue to the end

When the fan started I counted 250sec but it just continued after that

    Thanks

    is the compressor getting warm?

if yes then its energised but not starting
if no its either blown something or its getting no power

Just been to have a look turned it back on
there was a noise then the compressor started and the fan was spinning
so I will put it all back together and hopefully all will be well
    thanks again for the help
