Hi,

I came on here a while ago to get advice and spares for my FF92 – wonderful success – it’s still going strong – thank you.

My washing machine was just about to start it’s spin and “wallop” – it’s like someone’s put a Tiger in my machine and he’s not happy about it! Basically, the innards are trying to burst out of the box which makes a horrendous thumping noise and causes the unit to dance around the kitchen!

Unplugged, disconnected hoses then took the top off suspecting that one of the anchoring springs on the top may have broken but they are both OK.

Took the panel off on the rear low down to look at the suspension struts/dampers – don’t know the proper name for them. Now how do I tell if these are the things that have failed? One of them looks newer than the other – perhaps due to some water leakage on the “water in” side which has dripped down and caused the ageing of that strut. The plunger bit on that strut is dry.

The other strut (non-water in side – or right hand side as you face the machine) shows a bit of oil on the plunger bit.

So……
Can anybody throw any light on this? I could be way off the mark thinking it’s the suspension struts.
Does a strut or two need replacing?
If so – I can see how they fix into the base of the case but how do they fit to the drum?
Can I get all the spares I need?
How much do you think it might cost assuming I can do the repair myself?

And the big one……this is an old machine which although we are happy with it – is it worth fixing it up? Especially as it has a bit of a leak which is causing corrosion on the inside of the case at the bottom. Throwing good money after bad and all that…… 😕

Have a look at the underside of the machine. You sometimes get cracks in the base panel where the suspension units bolt on. You also can get one of the suspension units break off where the rod meets the drum. You can check this by looking and feeling to see they are secure. These rods are not easy to replace as there is very limited access to the retaining nut and you also need to grip the rod itself to stop it turning. Other items to check are the concrete blocks (see if they are loose) and the drum bearings/spider. Unfortunately, the only satisfactory way to check for a cracked drum spider is to remove the inner drum

I think it had just drained the wash water and was doing one of the intermediate quick spins – before it was due to fill up with rinse water.

Before getting too complicated with this, check the filter in the bottom hose. If the water isn’t getting away quickly and easily the drum can bang around all over the place. Power off……

However – it did drain in the end (did complete cycle with the top off and hence not banging on the case)

Filter clear – maintenance washes seem to have been doing their job

Wife has convinced me that a new machine is due.

Hence this one is up for grabs for parts. Is there a market for this kind of thing? Drum/Programmer/Motor etc are all OK.

Am loathe to throw it all in the tip too.

You’ve had the best out of it over the years (probably done in excess of 18 tonnes of washing in its time I expect?) and time to call in the local council to give it a decent send off into the ‘recycled’ after life! 😉

I just gave them a call – if you take it to the tip yourself then it’s free.

They dispose of and re-use as much of the materials as possible. Am struggling to find anyone who will actually take the machine off my hands and re-use the parts.

Anybody know any more than this?

I stripped out the wiring loom, motor (with door catch cable & mechanism attached) and the sump part from this machine before I ditched it.

Meant to do the freecycle thing but never got round to it. Put the parts in a box in the garage. have just cleared out the garage and need the space.

Does anybody want this stuff? – all fully operational when I took apart. I can’t landfill this stuff – It must be useful to someone, somewhere.

If I’m in your area I’ll even deliver for free
