    Hi

Hoping someone could help. I have a Hotpoint EW74 thats not heating properly, I am pretty sure its the Thermostat and the local repair place wants to charge me £100 to fix it. Having looked I can get the part for £25 so I think the charge is a bit steep, does anyone know where I can get a diagram of the inside of the oven so I can have a look at repairing it myself instead of paying someone £75 to do it.

    Thanks

May be the stat, may not be, could be the fan or the overheat stat failing. No manuals or diagrams, all copyright material.

Quite a difficult repair to undertake even if the stat is confirmed as the cause of the fault with the correct testing.

You also need to be sure of the full model number, there are EW74G,K,P or X and also EW74 G, K, P or X T

The G,K,P,X relates to colour but the T suffix denotes a different model. The thermostat is not the same for both models.

    Re: Hotpoint EW74 Thermostat issue

Thank you for getting back to me. I am quite confident with the repair having found a video online on how to do it.

The fault isn’t overheating its that it thinks it hotter than it is, the oven ready light goes out within 5 mins of turning it on (and the oven wasn’t that good when new) I suppose it will over heat as it has no means of telling the temp.

The one major issue I have come across is the other you have highlighted of not being able to confirm the full model number. I have come across this when looking for the parts for it and was concerned it would be a problem, is there anyway to find the model number on the oven as on the front it just says ‘EW74 Slot in’?

    Thanks

There should be a rating plate (stuck on label) usually down at the bottom. Full model number and serial number needed to ID. Would like to see a link to this video. 😉

NB. If the overheat stat is faulty then it can cut out before the correct temperature is reached, not a common fault but still possible.

I think once upon a time there was a sticker but its not there now. It was the first place I checked so I think it must have been there at one point. I take it with out it I am buggered?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1kKN4eAWxs is the video.

Sadly the two stats are not interchangeable, can you find anything on the back?

No I can see that just by looking at them they are different. I haven’t pulled it out yet, thats my job for tomorrow. I have the engineer booked to come out on Tuesday so if I can’t find it I will just wait for him. I suppose it might be a good idea anyway to get the problem diagnosed fully I just loath to spend £100 to repair a £300 cooker that is likely to go wrong again soon as its 6 years old now :/
