Hotpoint EW83G oven problem

When I switch electrical supply to cooker on and set up clock, the main oven immediately switches on even though the main oven control switch is set to off. It heats up to maximum and this cannot be changed by setting temperature on control switch so nothing can be cooked in oven because it just burns! Only way to use hobs is not to set up clock and just leave it flashing so that oven does not switch on. Would be grateful for any advice and the probable cost of repair.

Just another point, when the oven switches on by itself the fan doesn’t start up until the oven control switch is turned on

It does sound like a faulty oven thermostat. The only way to be certain is to test the stat with a multimeter or similar, or to change the oven control stat. The part is not over expensive, should be less than £20.00, not easy to fit though.
