Hotpoint EW86X – Problem with Grill

Very strange one tonight.

All on it’s own the cooker started clicking/ticking.

Checked that nothing was switched on and it continued clicking. Switched it off at the mains and the clicking stopped.

I then spent a while trying allsorts of different combinations of things until I found that it appears to be a problem with the grill.

As soon as you turn it on the clicking starts. The grill has two setting, half grill & full grill, but both have the same fault.

Soon as you turn the grill off the ticking stops.

Everything else – top oven, main over & all 4 hot rings work no problem.

Any suggestions as to what this could be?

OK I think it is the cooling fan that is at fault.

I am going to attempt to take the back off the cooker tonight to have a look at it.

Any tips?
Anything I need to be careful of?
