Hotpoint EW91 grill not working

I have a Hotpoint EW91, and the grill has stopped working. I have already replaced the grill element, but it still doesn’t work. The original element almost fell apart in my hands, so I assumed it was dead.

I have measured the connections to the grill with a voltmeter, and there is no voltage across any of the grill terminals no matter what position the grill knob is in.

I’m guessing that there’s something to control the grill, and that may be the problem. I’ve searched various spare parts websites and can’t find anything that sounds like “grill control unit”.

What controls the grill, and where can I get one? Or is it likely to be something else that’s the problem?

That would be the grill control regulator, the thing you turn to switch it on, 😉

If your grill control is to the far right of the control panel then it is part number 6204035.

Always a possibility that the faulty element may have taken it out or even done damage elsewhere.

Most of the websites I’ve found that part on describe it as a “switch”, which is probably what confused me. 😳

Is there anything tricky about getting to it, or do I just keep undoing screws until I get there?

Not easy to access, both side panels off, the hob loosened and eased back, all knobs & buttons off etc.
