We have a Hotpoint EW92 cooker, that’s rented with the house, and my wife noticed last night that it doesn’t get cold when switched off. All the dials are turned off but the upper grill surface is still hot to the touch even after several hours. (about 47°C according to my thermometer). If I turn it off at the isolator, it does cool down. As soon as I turn the isolator on, it starts warming up again.
Now the top grill area is behind the control panel, so it’s just possible that whatever electrics are in the control panel dissipate enough heat to warm the grill, but the thermometer seems to indicate it’s not that. Equally, it’s possible there’s some fault, and we’re just a whisker away from a fire. Or some other possibility.
Does anybody have an idea what’s going on, or any suggestions to diagnose further?
Obviously, we’ll keep it isolated for now except when using it, and we’ll be contacting the letting agent, but if there’s anything I can do in the meantime …
