Hotpoint Fridge Freezer Model 8595 (frost free) Freezer ok but fridge not working.

Can anyone suggest what may be the problem with my F/F? The fridge has stopped cooling down but the freezer works.

Turning the stat up sometimes starts the fan at the rear of the fridge, This would indicate that the stat & the fridge fan work ok. Does the fan blow cold air into the fridge or is this the defrost cycle?

Is there a valve between the freezer & fridge section of the refrigerant tubes controlled by the stats? Some ice does form at the rear of the base of the fridge.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There is a sensor(thermistor) in the fridge which via the control opens the motorised baffle to allow cold in from the freezer which cools the fridge. If you have ice forming between the freezer and fridge comaprtments it’s the beginning of the end for the old girl, this can also keep the fridge from coming on as it’s cooling the fridge down too,it will get progressively worse.
Look for a spring bargain 😉

Thanks for the info spimps. So there is a motorised baffle in the refrigeration tubes. Is the thermistor located behing the fridge rear plastic panel? If it’s a low cost item I may try replacing it. Why does ice begin to form in an older fridge?

Thermistor is at the top, short white or grey lead with a plastic covered bulb on the end, think it plugs in the same terminal as the motorised baffle.
Old ones ice up because the sealant breaks down or ice/air pockets form in the insulation and grop over the years, much like damp spreading in walls.

Thanks again spimps. You do mean the thermistor is at the top inside of the fridge, behind the plastic panel near the fan? You don’t happen to have the part number of the thermistor so I could do a search for it?
